Just got introduced to Kickball and I’m really enjoying it. Today will be a day of class, taxes six hours of work and countless hours spent working on a project due in the morning, so I’ll take any small joy I can get.
M4A: Kickball - Beard
Of the things I miss most about my childhood, kickball and dodgeball rank just below not having any financial responsibilities (happy tax day!). Maybe it’s for that reason that I’m so drawn towards Kickball’s record Everything is a Miracle Nothing is a Miracle Everything Is. Of the songs I’ve heard from it so far, it seems to be a really fun indie-pop album that’s unlike the vast majority of indie-pop bands out there today. There’s a lot going on in the three minutes of “Beard.” It goes from a slinky, minimal Favorite Sons-esque opening into an explosive second half.

My film professor Tom Marksbury wrote the narration for the 2006 documentary Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride: Hunter S. Thompson on Film. I finally got to see it last night and suggest it to anyone who’s interested in Hunter. I’ve never been a wild fan of his (though I loved his first Gonzo Kentucky Derby article), but I thought the doc was fantastic.
